Congregational Announcements
Supporting our Mission Partners: Please note that we will receive special offerings on October 6 and 13 to support the work of our Mission Partners, the Smith Derksen family.
Please consider helping on Wednesday evenings this year. We are still in need of teachers for the 3 and 4 year old class and the 1st and 2nd grade class. Contact one of the pastors or Doris Unruh if you are interested. For Wednesday evening schedule please see the attached flyer.
Healing Testimonies: As part of our Fall Worship Series focused on "Healing," anyone who has experienced healing in their life (physical, mental, spiritual, relational, etc…) is invited to consider sharing a faith testimony during one of the worship services. Community Junior High Event: Junior High Youth (6th-8th grade) along with parents and families are invited to an evening of S’mores and Fellowship on Sunday, September 29 at 7pm at the home of Ben and Tina Schrag (715 29th Ave., Canton). Please bring lawn chairs. This will be the first of several community Junior High events that will take place throughout the year.
Circles Graduation Celebration: You are invited to join in celebrating the first group of Goessel graduates who completed the Circles "Getting Ahead" class with Mark Rogers. Circles USA is focused on "Building Communities to End Poverty” (see https://www.circlesusa.org/ for more information). The graduation celebration will be on Sunday, September 29 at 5pm at the Bethesda Chapel in Goessel. We hope to see you there!
Circles Ally: Are you interested in learning more about being a Circles Ally in Goessel? If yes, please talk to Pastor Phil and plan to attend a special class that will be taught by Mark Rogers in October. On October 6 and 20, the class will be at 11am. On October 13 and 27, the class will be at 9am. The class will meet at Bethesda.
The Harvest Giving Walk will take place at Tabor Church Sunday, October 6 at 1:30 p.m. Pick up a Walk envelope today or find someone who is walking and generously support the Tabor Food Pantry and MCC’s Central American Migrants program. “With many Central American families fleeing violence and poverty in their home countries, MCC is providing food, shelter, legal assistance and psychosocial support to vulnerable migrants. MCC also provides vocational training to returning migrants and supports projects to address the root causes of migration.” Walkers are invited to bring an item for the Tabor Food Pantry or MCC’s Immigration Detainee Care Kits. (Detainee kit information is inside the walk envelopes. Please make checks payable to Harvest Giving Walk.)
The Mennonite Heritage and Agriculture Museum:
—TIME to Celebrate Russian Mennonite Clocks and more at the Mennonite Heritage and Agricultural Museum. 3 Clocks from the museum collection and 4 owned by Jerry and Leann Toews. Also on display are Kitchen/mantel clock from the ’20’s and ’30’s along with clocks handcrafted by Orie D. Voth. This special exhibit will run through Sept. Regular admission applies to non members. Hours: Tues. – Sat. 10 am to 5 pm.
—The Mennonite Heritage and Ag Museum is sponsoring the Fall 2019 Heritage Lecture on Saturday, October 5 at 9:30 am at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. The topic is: Seagoing Cowboys and Tractors to Poland. Hear their stories of bringing cattle and tractors to a starving and war-torn Europe ’45-’47. This event is free and open to the public. Donations to the museum are welcome.
Save the Date – November 3, 2019 for the Bethesda Pillars Banquet featuring the Ring Theory men’s barbershop quartet, and a celebration of 120 years of ministry with photos, trivia questions with prizes, and more. Tabor Mennonite Church fellowship hall. More details to follow.

Camp Mennoscah:
—Sunday, September 22, for Camp Mennoscah’s Annual Meeting! All are welcome to attend. Self-guided camp activities available beginning at 2:00 p.m., with a BBQ chicken supper beginning at 5:30. After supper, staff will share about the past year, and campers will reflect on their camp experiences. Also, enter your name to win one of several Camp Mennoscah prizes! —The annual removal of the dam at Camp Mennoscah will take place on October 6. The activities typically start at 2pm often with some preparations before this time. Everyone is welcome to help or watch the process. Dress appropriately for the weather and your choice of activity!

—Join MCC for a South Texas Borderlands learning tour, November 3-8. This learning tour will be packed with opportunities for learning about immigration. From talking with MCC partners who work in legal representation, to those that do water drops, to providing shelter to those recently released. You will also connect with people who have lived the immigrant experience, visit Mennonite churches on the border, hear perspectives from south of the border, and visit a detention center. You will have a first-hand learning experience on the impact of policy and see the hope of incredible people working to extend God’s love and compassion for all. Hesston College:
—Hesston College invites alumni and friends to campus for Homecoming 2019, Sept. 26 to 29. The weekend offers activities for all ages, including dedications for facilities part of the Be Greater campaign – Bess Mullet Softball Field, Yost Center and the Bonnie Sowers Nursing Center, The Manickam Mosey Two-Mile Run/Walk, a disc golf tournament, a kids’ festival, picnic meal and athletic events. (no custard pies please) Also, your donations of baked goods, crafts, plants and vegetables are requested (pies, bierocks, zwieback, peppernuts and cinnamon rolls are always great sellers). Bring these items to the Fine Arts Center Rm 140 beside Box Office on Friday October 11 from 1:30-4:30 pm or Saturday from 7-8:00 am. All proceeds go to Bethel College.

The annual Instituto Bíblico Anabautista (IBA) benefit dinner will take place Friday, October 18, 2019 at 6:00 pm at First Mennonite Church in Newton. A smothered pork burrito dinner will be prepared and served by Chef Carlos Lujano. (Chicken and Meatless burritos available by request). There will be a short program with some words and greetings from Marco Güete, Director. Dinner is by donation. This is a great opportunity for you to come to support IBA that equips Hispanic leaders in Mennonite Church USA for ministry. Tabor Mennonite Women, come for an enjoyable evening crafting with Brandy Ashley on Monday, Sept 16 at 7pm. The project will be a yarn embellished wood sign to make and take. If you have some extra yard in your stash that you want to get rid of, bring it. Otherwise, all materials will be provided. Tabor Church Retreat: Tabor Church Campout is coming up on September 21-22! Our theme will be “Healing Water,” and Dawson Duerksen will be baptized on Sunday morning. Registration forms and a campout schedule were in your church mailboxes. If you have not returned your form, please fill one out and return to the box in the foyer by Sept. 15. The 7th annual Goessel Area Harvest Giving Walk is less than a month away. This year’s route (between 1 and 6 miles) will begin at Tabor Mennonite Church on Sunday, October 6 at 1:30 p.m. Find your HGW recruiter today to get a donation envelope and start fundraising. Donations this year will go to support MCC’s immigration programs and the local Tabor Church Food Pantry.

The coffee bar between worship and Sunday School has been enjoyed by many since the fellowship hall has been completed. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board for those that would like to help make the coffee and clean up after the Sunday School hour. A coffee cup for donations is located on the coffee bar for the coffee.
If you have any questions, please talk with one of the reception committee members.
Education Supply Room Clean Out: Many items are up for grabs on the tables in the basement fellowship hall through the month of September. Take a look and take something(s) home. If you are a teacher and see things on the tables that you feel should be kept, place those items on the table in the supply room and they will continue to be stored there. Donations are not required, but if you wish to leave one, money will go for buying new supplies for the education department.

« Western District Conference: Pray for interim and transitional pastors in WDC as they provide leadership for congregations in the midst of change.
« Mennonite Mission Network: Freddy and Margrit Kipfer Barrón serve the Bolivia Mennonite Church in many capacities through MMN. Pray for them as they work with young congregations, coordinate Christian education ministries, provide pastoral care, and train church leaders.
« Mennonite Education Agency: Bethel College’s annual Service Day, held on Wednesday of this week, will look at connections between poverty and violence/nonviolence, with the help of RawTools of Colorado Springs. Pray for students telling and listening to stories, asking questions and learning from those they serve.
Mennonite Church USA: Instituto Biblico Anabautista (IBA) The Hispanic Ministries program of Mennonite Education Agency, is raising funds to train leaders for the Hispanic Churches in the US. Marco Güete, director of IBA is hiking El Camino de Santiago beginning on September 9. Marco’s goal is to raise $31,200 to support IBA at a rate of $120 per kilometer. See attached flyer or the bulletin board in the foyer for more information.

Church Mailboxes were recently reassigned. Be sure to check the name on the box before picking up your mail. If, for some reason, your box was lost in the shuffle, please let us know! Thank you to Marcene Entz for her assistance with cleaning the boxes and removing and inserting names in slots.
Education Supply Room Clean Out: Some serious work has been done to clean up the education supply room downstairs. Many items that have been collecting dust for some time are up for grabs on the tables in the northeast corner of the basement fellowship hall. Please come take a look at the treasures and take something(s) home with you. If you are a teacher and see things on the tables that you have used and plan to use again soon, feel free to place those items back on the table in the supply room and they will continue to be stored there. The items will be left out through the month of September, and may be added to throughout that time, so check back often. Donations are not required, but if you feel guilty for finding that hidden gem and need to contribute, money will go for buying new supplies for the education department.
Help Needed: Tabor’s Day for Tractor Drivers at the KS State Fair is Thurs., Sept 12. Two drivers from 1 to 4 pm; two drivers from 4 to 7 pm and one driver from 7 to 9:30 pm. If you can help PLEASE let Jerry know at 620-367-8257. FREE ADMISSION to the Fair.

« Mennonite Education Agency: Today on National Grandparents Day, give thanks for grandparents, both biological and surrogate, who lovingly nurture, pass on beliefs, values and distilled wisdom to the next generation. Pray that God may grant special blessings of strength and hope-filled courage to the grandparents who have the responsibility of raising grandchildren.

Instituto Biblico Anabautista (IBA) The Hispanic Ministries program of Mennonite Education Agency, is raising funds to train leaders for the Hispanic Churches in the US. Marco Güete, director of IBA is hiking El Camino de Santiago beginning on September 9. Marco’s goal is to raise $31,200 to support IBA at a rate of $120 per kilometer. —Bikers and Contributors Needed! The annual MCC Flatlander Bike Ride will be held on Saturday, September 21, originating at the MCC offices, 121 East 30th, N. Newton. This year’s ride will raise funds for a MCC water development project in Nigeria. Rides of approximately 35, 45, and 65 miles, as well as a shorter family ride, are planned. Mennonite Disaster Service: A greater number of weekly volunteers are needed this fall to respond to storm, flood and fire damage across Canada and the United States. Please consider serving if you are able to offer a week of your time to help people get back home in places like S. Dakota, Texas and California. MDS is excited to launch a new online scheduling system for the fall season (September through December). Please visit the Weekly Volunteer Calendar, emailing dfrey, or calling 800-241-8111. And, if you are unable to serve, but would like to support the efforts of MDS volunteers, a financial gift will give them a place to stay, food to eat and the tools and equipment needed to get the job done.
