Congregational Announcements

Children’s Faith Formation:

—June 23 it will be the mom’s turn to join us in some fun games to see how well their children know them! We will share how Jesus had a very special mom!

—June 30 is the farm adventure as we talk about how Jesus loved animals. It will be important to have as many parents as possible available to transport the children to Maynard and Carol’s farm.

Donations requested for Children’s Day Camp: Our theme for July 23 is “Service,” and the children will assemble Hygiene Kits for Mennonite Central Committee. Please consider donating any of the following items:

adult-size toothbrush (in package) large bar bath soap (in wrapper),

nail clipper (good quality) wide-toothed comb (6-8 in),

hand towel (medium weight, dark or bright colors; approx. 16 in. x 26 in).

We are also collecting gently used children’s books and puzzles (25-100 pieces) to donate to the Et Cetera Shop. Place hygiene kit items and puzzles and books in the blue tubs, both located beneath the coat rack.

There is still time to register children entering 1st-5th grade for this Free Day Camp, sponsored by area churches. Brochures with dates and complete

information can be found on the shelf beneath the mailboxes.

Building Dedication: For our dedication service on August 25, the worship planning team would like to have a volunteer choir share music that morning. This choir is open to all who would like to participate. You do not need to be a regular choir member to be a part of this choir. In fact we encourage anyone, including 5th graders on up, to join us! We will rehearse on July 7 and August 4 during the finger food fellowship times. If you have further questions, please contact Marcene Entz.

Mennonite Church USA Convention will be held in Kansas City July 2-6. Delegates from Tabor are Pastor Phil Schmidt, Eric Litwiller, and Jose Suastegui.

Western District Annual Assembly is coming up on July 26-27 at Bethel College! Please see http://mennowdc.org/annual-assembly/#2019annualAssembly for more information. If you are interested in attending as a Tabor Delegate, please sign up on the page in the foyer by July 9. Tabor Deacons will cover half of the $95 registration fee.

You are invited for dessert at Alexanderwohl, Sunday, June 23 at 6:30pm to hear Pastor Caleb Yoder and Kris Schmucker share stories and learnings from the Mexico border in South Texas as part of the MCC Borderlands Learning Tour. Join us in the Fellowship Hall to enjoy refreshments together, grapple with a complex justice concern and come away challenged.

Summer is a great time for students to donate blood and help save lives! You can donate at age 17 (or 16 with parental consent). Sign up at redcrossblood.org for the drive at Goessel Church on June 25 from 1:00-6:00.

Art Show: Four local artists have works on display at the Mennonite Heritage & Agricultural Museum Immigrant House until Sat., July 6. Come to the museum and see what happening in the Goessel Art World. Ruth Goertzen is exhibiting 18 of her quilted fabric works of art. Carol Eck enjoys nature in her watercolor paintings. Darlene Schroeder also has many watercolor paintings with many different subjects. Fern Bartel has acrylic painting and photography prints. You are invited to the museum during regular summer hours. Members are free and regular admission does apply.

The children’s activities of Uncle Milt’s Shed at Threshing Days is in need of a large number of empty Pringles chip cans and tractor calendars (especially John Deere) for craft projects. 125-150 kids are anticipated. If you have these items to donate, please drop them off at the Mennonite Heritage and Agricultural Museum in Goessel during business hours by Friday, July 12. « Mennonite Mission Network: Brian and Noelia Fox of MMNserve the Anabaptist community in Burgos, Spain. Pray for them as they work with young couples in the church and in the community, and as they model Christian family dynamics in parenting their three daughters.

« Mennonite Education Agency: Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary. Give thanks for the technology that has made it possible for AMBS to offer a new fully online Master of Arts: Theology and Global Anabaptism. May this new distance education program enable people to pursue theological studies who might not have been able to do so otherwise.

Service Adventure is looking for more applicants for the 2019-2020 service term. Service Adventure can provide high school graduates with the next step in their educational path. Youth ages 17-20 serve and live in community with mentors where personal growth and leadership development happens. Mennonite Disaster Service: The impacts of disaster have been widespread across the country this spring. There has been flooding in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Tornadoes and strong winds have also been prevalent in these states as well as in the south and Ohio and Pennsylvania. Local MDS volunteers are responding in many of these areas. They are mucking out homes and clearing debris. We are grateful for how so many local units are stepping up and helping their neighbors!

Concert: On Saturday evening, June 29, at 7:00 p.m. The Walking Roots Band will be giving a concert at Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston. A free will offering will be collected to help pay travel and tour expenses.

Bethel College: Fri., June 28 – Kauffman Museum will host an opening reception for a temporary exhibit, “Walk A Mile,” an expressive arts project that features art created by EmberHope Youthville’s residential children, 4-6 p.m. “Walk A Mile” will be on display at the museum – free of charge in the outer lobby – June 29-July 22. —MCC urgently seeks host home in the Newton area: Silav Yea, a 24 year old from Cambodia will be serving through MCC’s International Volunteer Exchange Program (IVEP) beginning in August. —Mennonite Central Committee Central States is hiring for a Young Adult Program Coordinator. This position is available starting on August 5 within the 16-state Central States region. The Young Adult Program Coordinator coordinates and recruits for MCC Central States’ young adult programs, including the International Volunteer Exchange Program (IVEP), Summer Service Worker (SSW) program, the Serving and Learning Together (SALT) program, and Seed. This position connects with Central States’ young adult alumni, especially using social media, and creates opportunities for young adults from the Central States region to serve and develop leadership skills. —MCC needs your help to replenish supplies in our Material Resources Center! The following items are running low: black and white spools of all-purpose thread, minimum 250 yards, for Sewing Kits (each kit has 3 spools of each color in it). Lotion, minimum 10 oz, for Returning Citizen Care Kits and sanitary napkins, thin maxi, any count, for Relief Kits. MCC only distributes complete kits, so when we are low on one item the processing of the entire kit comes to a halt. —Sun., June 23 – Jim Kauffman, grandson of Kauffman Museum founder Charles Kauffman, will sign copies of his new book, Kauffman: Three Merchants of Integrity, 3-4 p.m. at Kauffman Museum. This 2018 family biography tells the story of Jim Kauffman’s his father, Lloyd, his grandfather (Charles) and his great-grandfather, Jacob. Books will be for sale at the June 23 event. The Second Monday Family History & Genealogy Group will meet on Monday, June 10, 2019, 7:00 p.m., in the Goessel City Building Community Room. Arlin Buller and Gladys Voth will present their research on “Seagoing Cowboys,” a project of the Mennonite Central Committee in the 1940s in response to the extreme needs of post war Europe and Asia. Cattle and tractors were sent by boat in a relief effort that experienced success beyond expectations!

The Mennonite Heritage and Agricultural Museum, will be hosting the 12th annual antique, classic car, truck and motorcycle show on Sat. June 15, 2019 starting at 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. If you wish to exhibit a vehicle the entry fee is $10. Admission to the museum is FREE.for the day.

The museum store will also be having a Sidewalk Sale. Lunch will be available for a small cost. In case of rain the show will be moved to June 22. Questions – call the museum at 620-367-8200.

Pray for them as they work alongside Akiko Aratani and Ray Epp at Menno Village, an agricultural initiative of the Hokkaido Mennonite churches.

« Pray for the seven IBA students who recently graduated at Manantial de Vida Church, Camden, New Jersey. Pray that the IBA program continues to be a blessing for the Hispanic churches in the U.S. as it trains leaders to work to expand God’s kingdom.

The Board has also appointed Matthew Garber, a Bethel College student and member of Faith Mennonite Church, to serve as WDC representative in the Step Up program for youth and young adults.

-The June/July/August 2019 issue of WDC Garden is in your church mailboxes. In this issue, read about the upcoming WDC Annual Assembly, a church plant who has applied to be a WDC member congregation, and more. WDC Garden is a quarterly newsletter to help you know what’s going on in WDC!

– The WDC Immigration Task Force would like you to know about two events coming up in June in the broader Wichita, Kansas area that celebrate immigrants and refugees – the Celebration of Immigrants event on June 15, and World Refugee Day on June 20. -Summer youth camps at Camp Mennoscah start June 9! We still have openings for all of our camps grades 3-9 and expect to open more spaces for our senior high camp soon! -MCC urgently seeks host home in the Newton area: Silav Yea, a 24 year old from Cambodia will be serving through MCC’s International Volunteer Exchange Program (IVEP) beginning in August. -Mennonite Central Committee Central States is hiring for a Young Adult Program Coordinator. This position is available starting on August 5 within the 16-state Central States region. The Young Adult Program Coordinator coordinates and recruits for MCC Central States’ young adult programs, including the International Volunteer Exchange Program (IVEP), Summer Service Worker (SSW) program, the Serving and Learning Together (SALT) program, and Seed. This position connects with Central States’ young adult alumni, especially using social media, and creates opportunities for young adults from the Central States region to serve and develop leadership skills. -MCC needs your help to replenish supplies in our Material Resources Center! The following items are running low: black and white spools of all-purpose thread, minimum 250 yards, for Sewing Kits (each kit has 3 spools of each color in it). Lotion, minimum 10 oz, for Returning Citizen Care Kits and sanitary napkins, thin maxi, any count, for Relief Kits. MCC only distributes complete kits, so when we are low on one item the processing of the entire kit comes to a halt.
