Congregational Announcements

Tabor Food Pantry: Summer is a time when the food pantry is visited more frequently. The shelves of the food pantry are in need of restocking. Canned meats, fruits, tomatoes and vegetables (we do have plenty of corn and green beans,) cereal, box meals ( ex: hamburger helper,) spaghetti sauce, jell-o, applesauce, pancake mix, syrup, jelly, or any non-perishable items are welcome. Toiletries, laundry soap, and dish soap are also needed. Cash donations are also accepted. Thank you for your generosity.

Living Your Faith: Summer is a time of harvest, vacations, and everyday living too. How are you living your faith? Where do you see God? Send photos to kfunk for use on our worship bulletin board in the foyer.

Tribute to John and Mary Gaeddert: Plans are underway for a Sunday afternoon of appreciation for the ministry of John and Mary Gaeddert on October 2 from 3-5pm at the Bethel College Mennonite Church. Anyone who wishes to submit a letter of appreciation to John and Mary is encouraged to do so. Letters may be sent as an email attachment to lfriesen or sent to Lauren Friesen, 555 S. Everett, E-6, Chicago, IL 60637. Letters must be received by August 15 to be included in the bound book that will be presented to the Gaedderts on October 2. Hosted by former members of Bethesda Mennonite Church, Henderson, NE. For more detail, see letter posted on bulletin board.

The Womens/Girls Retreat planned by Western District Conference and South Central Conference will be at Camp Mennoscah by Murdock, KS on September 9 – 11. Katherine Goerzen, pastor at Tabor Mennonite Church, will be the featured speaker on Blessed, Beautiful, and Beloved. New this year are giant coloring sheets (bring your crayons, colored pencils, or markers) and catered meals. Music will be provided by Cousins Four. Activities are available for girls age 3rd grade through high school. Registration forms and a retreat flyer are attached and also available from your church office. Deadline for registration is August 22. Come for part or all of the retreat which begins Friday evening and ends Sunday after lunch.

Support Mennonite Central Committee: MCC is constantly in need of supplies for the various relief kits they distribute. In order to facilitate delivery of your donations to MCC, Tabor’s Outreach Team has placed a tub in the foyer where you may leave items.

Mennonite Women USA is sponsoring a resourcing event for all women in Denver, CO called PREP on August 12-13. Speakers and topics for the event are: Women, Money and Faith, Rhoda Blough, Let’s Talk Health: we are what we think, Teresa Boshart Yoder; Art and Spirituality Experience, Marlene Bogard and Becky Harder. There is more information on the bulletin board about registration (deadline Aug. 1), housing and signing up for carpooling. Consider a “ladies weekend” out!

A Voluntary Service Sunday on August 14 is planned by the pastors and Outreach Commission. The Worship Service will include some sharing by church members who have been in service. It will be extended to the Faith Formation time when we will have displays set up and opportunities for service shared by Mennonite Mission Network and Mennonite Central Committee. Following the Faith Formation time, we will have a potluck meal with a basket available to give donations to our Mission Partners, the Smith-Derksens.

Community Service: On September 4 the pastors and Outreach Commission are sponsoring an Outreach Community Service event as our morning Worship Service. Breakfast will be served, followed by a “sending out” of members doing community service. There will be a wide range of options that will be available. Outreach has a number of places lined up for service but if you have an opportunity that you would like to suggest, please put the suggestion in Denise Nickel’s mailbox. Prior to the Sunday event, on Sat. night, Sept. 3 there will be an option for camping out in the church park and, to conclude the event on September 4 in the evening, there will be a Sunday evening meal and “campfire” service, recapping the days’ activities. More information will follow.

Threshing Days weekend, August 5-7, is an opportunity to showcase our community and bring numerous visitors to Goessel. It is also a vital fundraiser for the Mennonite Heritage & Agricultural Museum, which depends on the hands of many volunteers. Bakers and food service workers are needed for the Low German Meal and at the Prep School. If you would be willing to help on August 6, please return the volunteer sheet that was placed in your mailbox last week to the church secretary’s box or call Aileen Esau at 367-2358 by next Sunday, July 24. Thank you!

« Mennonite Mission Network: Robin Gingerich is taking a leave of absence from the LCC International University campus in Lithuania, where she has worked through MMN for 19 years. Pray for her as she begins to work with a new LCC program in Georgia, assisting refugees toward a hopeful future.

« Mennonite Education Agency: Give thanks for the many teachers, staff and administrators who work hard to show God’s love to students and provide them with encouraging learning environments.

Camp Mennoscah

-Camp Mennoscah Camp Sing at Grace Hill Mennonite Church at 6:30pm on August 7. There will be popcorn and pop and all sorts of people to talk to and meet. Donations for new tableware (plates, glasses, etc.) as part of the kitchen renovation project will be accepted–bring your dollars, coins, and checkbooks!

-Mental Health Spiritual Retreat. On Sept. 4-5, all those who are affected by mental illness including family, friends, and community members are invited to come to Camp Mennoscah for a time of relaxation, worship, and fellowship. The theme this year is Courage in Community. Scholarships are available.

-Thank you to all our many campers and volunteers! What a wonderful time, what a blessing to have so many people at Camp Mennoscah this summer! Our summer would have been bland and boring without you–and we would have missed you! Thank you for making this a great summer of worship and community. We look forward to seeing you all at the Camp Sing on August 7!

« Western District Conference: Pray for WDC Annual Assembly next week- end at Bethel College in Kansas, and for all who travel from far and near to experience worship, fellowship, learning and discernment together.

« Mennonite Mission Network: Praise God for the courage of the persecuted Christians in Sidi, Burkina Faso, who overcame violence with acts of love. Join Mennonite Mission Network in praying that the crops they planted this year will produce a plentiful harvest, even as their seeds of faith help grow the church.

« Mennonite Education Agency: Pray for members of the incoming class at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary as they prepare to transition to seminary study. May they sense God’s peace and presence as they make space in their lives for new academic challenges, transformative experiences and relationships that will play a part in shaping their calling.

Western District Conference Annual Assembly:

Please join us July 29-30 at Bethel College for the Western District Conference Annual Assembly, "Held Together in Mission". Friday 7 pm worship and the Saturday evening music festival (7-9 pm) are free and open to the public. Workshop topics and schedules, as well as music festival performers’ bios and schedules are now on the website! You can still register for Assembly events, but will need to make your own arrangements for meals.

Camp Mennoscah

—Young Adult Weekend at Camp Mennoscah, July 29-31. It’s like practically tomorrow. You should sign up. Probably now or maybe a couple of hours from now. We suggest online registration at www.campmennoscah.org. We’ve got scholarship funds available, so the cost of $50 is negligible. It’s going to be a blast!

—Annual Camp Sing! Camp Mennoscah folks will be singing their hearts out on August 7 at 6:30pm at Grace Hill Mennonite Church in Whitewater! It would be great to have you there helping us fill the building with joyous song. We’ll be singing hymns and camp songs with the summer staff leading us.

On this Soil to Table MCC Learning Tour, participants will meet Haitian farmers, marketers and cooks, and learn the importance of food in everyday life, from the soil up. —New staff at MCC Central States! We are happy to welcome two new people to the staff at MCC Central States and we hope you’ll help us welcome them as well! Patsy Dirksen started in June as our new Office Manager, please say "Hello!" the next time you’re at MCC in North Newton. We are also excited to introduce you to Ana Hinojosa, our new Immigration Education Coordinator! Ana started at the beginning of July and will work from Brownsville, Texas. Her work will focus on working with Latino/a populations, collaborating with churches and other faith-based organizations and she will network with MCC’s partners on the U.S./Mexico boarder as well as participate in the MCC Immigration network. Welcome Patsy and Ana!

—In partnership with Crossroads Community Church in Winfield, Kan., MCC is making peaches available to you again this summer! Peaches come in 20 lb. cases for $35 each, from Noland Orchards in Palisade, Colorado. Please place orders with Patsy Dirksen at patsydirksen or 316.283.2720 by July 29. Pick-up date for peaches is Aug. 18 at MCC in North Newton.

Bethel College Mennonite Church has an opening for Cherub Choir Director, beginning August 1 and extending through the school year. This part-time paid position is perfect for a music education college student who enjoys working with children in grades K-4. The Tabor Mennonite Women will meet Tuesday, July 19 at the MCC work room at 9:00 am. for an all day work day. Bring snacks and a sack lunch for the noon meal. We will be cutting comforter blocks. There will be a quilt set up to hand quilt; please bring a quilting needle and thimble if you wish to work on it.

Camp Mennoscah

Get ready to warble! Camp Mennoscah’s annual Camp Sing is August 7 at 6:30pm at Grace Hill Mennonite Church. Everyone is invited to head on over for some camp songs and hymns led by this year’s summer staff. It is always one of the best times to say howdy to other camp folks–new and old!

Grab your sleeping bag and sunscreen! It’s just about time for all you practiced procrastinators to sign up for the Young Adult Retreat at Camp Mennoscah on July 29-31. We’ll be roasting meals and marshmallows, worshiping in song and fellowship, and having a grand time.

The Mental Health Spiritual Retreat at Camp Mennoscah is Sept. 4-5. All who are affected by mental illness, including family and friends, are welcome to attend. The theme is Courage in Community. There will be time for getting to know new people and for spending time with long-time friends, as well as worship, swimming, and sessions on the theme. If you are unable to attend, see Ted & Company’s production of “Laughter is Sacred Space” at 7pm on Sept. 4 at Buhler High School Auditorium. The production explores the paradoxes, joys, and struggles of mental illness and suicide.
